Gradual hearing loss that occurs as you age (presbycusis) is common.
According to the National Institutes of Health, an estimated one-third
of Americans between the ages of 65 and 75 and close to one-half of
those older than 75 have some degree of hearing loss. However, with the
music decibels ever increasing and the introduction of ear bud
headphones, hearing loss is affecting people at an earlier and earlier
age.
More than 22 million people suffer from a significant hearing loss,
with 5 million school-age children being affected and 8 million in the
over-65 age range.
According to the National Institutes of for Occupational Safety and
Health anyone who notices a change in their hearing should have a
hearing test. Those exposed to hazardous noise should have an annual
hearing test, while others should consider a hearing test every three
years.
You can't reverse hearing loss. However, you don't have to live in a
world of quieter, less distinct sounds. You and a hearing specialist can
take steps to improve what you hear.
Let Blue Bell Hearing Aid Center determine if you are having a
hearing problem, and assist you in correcting your problem.
